Sports Massage
MASSAGE MARBELLA BY SUSAN
Sports massage is of vital importance for golfers, tennis players and practisers of other sports because it improves performance, facilitates faster and more efficient recovery, reduces the risk of injury and accelerates recovery from injury.
In particular, one of the most common ailments among golfers is “golfer’s elbow”, caused by overuse of the flexor muscles of the forearm, which can tear or stretch the tendons causing pain on the inside of the elbow. This pain can be treated with targeted massage of the area and prevented with stretching and rest.
The hips, hands and feet (due to the rigid footwear used for golf) also receive special attention in a treatment that combines sports and therapeutic massage techniques, emphasising the areas of greatest need due to the characteristics of this sport.
Sports massage is a type of massage whose main purpose is to prepare the tissues of your body for a major sporting effort. And, incidentally, to recover and/or prevent injuries that you may suffer during training or competition.
There is no universal sports massage for all sports and muscles. But there are massages that vary according to the sporting activity you practice and the desired therapeutic objectives.
What Sports Massage is used for
Sports massage is indicated for people who are active in sports and who need to activate muscles, heal injuries and improve their recovery.
The objectives of sports massage include the following:
- To improve sporting performance.
- To warm up the muscles prior to extreme exercise, oxygenating them and making them more flexible.
- To prevent injuries that may occur during competition or training.
- Adequately prepare the muscles for sporting effort and keep them in optimum condition.
- To favour muscular recovery from sports injuries, and in general to strengthen the athlete’s physique.
- Contribute to the de-inflammation, regeneration and remodelling of the micro-tears in the tissues that may affect the sporting practice to be carried out.
- To recover and unload the muscles through lymphatic drainage and venous return massages.
- Relax the muscles, as well as the athlete just before the competition.
